Document Conversion

Document conversion

Have you ever been frustrated at trying to open a document that was in the wrong format?

Having problems opening a WordPerfect Document in Word or a Word document in a text editor?

Need to edit a PDF document?

Wondering how to open that strange document you never even heard of with strange extension such as QXD, EPS, AI, PSD, PM6 or CDR?

Send us the document and we can convert it. We can open files of most known types, and output in a variety of popular formats.

Formats include: Word (DOC), WordPerfect (DOC, WP), Quark XPress (QXD), PageMaker (PM5, PM6), CorelDraw (CDR, CMX), Adobe Photoshop (PSD, JPG, GIF, TIF, PDD, BMP), Adobe Illustrator (AI, EPS), Excel (XLS, CSV), sound files (WAV, MP3).

So if you received an attachment in your email and cannot open it, send it to us for conversion. All documents will be scanned for viruses before opening, and in the unlikely event of a virus infection it may be necessary to destroy the file. You will be notified of this. Please also note that files with the following extension are the most likely to have a virus and will be refused: EXE, VBS, SCR.

Graphic Conversion

Graphic conversion

It can often be frustrating when you have a graphic but need to convert it to a different format, and lack the resources to do so.

For example, you might have a bitmap image (BMP) but need to put it on the web, which requires pictures to be in GIF or JPG format. No problem, conversion can be made without loss of quality, and the image can be optimised for lowest possible file size to ensure quickest possible time for the graphic to appear on the page (without reducing size of the image).

Or you might have a Photoshop image (PSD) but not the Photoshop program. Send it to us and we can open the file and convert it to any format you require. The main graphic formats for bitmap images are: GIF, JPG, TIF, BMP, PCX, IFF, PCT, PIC, PNG.

TIF images can be saved in CMYK or RGB format. You will need images in CMYK format for printing, such as in magazines or on flyers. Most graphics programs can only output TIF images as RGB (suitable for viewing on the screen only, Red Green Blue) which are useless for printing, as the printing process uses the four colours Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK (CMYK).

Images can also be resized, have their resolution increased or reduced, or even output as a PDF document. PDF documents can also be converted into image files (one per page) at any suitable resolution.

CD/DVD Creation

CD Creation

Do you have vast amounts of data or programs you need to put onto a CD or DVD-ROM?

A CD-ROM will hold 700 MB of data, a DVD-ROM will hold 4.38 GB of data.

Do you need to backup important data in a permanent format? Finding floppy disks too small and zip disks too expensive?

You can send your data to us for putting onto a CD or DVD-ROM for a permanent and safe storage solution. Once recorded onto CD/DVD the data cannot be lost or accidentally erased. Floppy disks can be erased if exposed to magnetic fields for long periods of time, CDs/DVDs are not affected in this way.
Data can be captured in a number of ways, such as direct cable connection to our laptop computer, or if you have zip disks, we can read disks of 100 or 250 MB capacity. Useful if you want to use the zip disks to transfer the data to CDs/DVDs, then reuse the zip disks.

You can also put audio data onto CD to be played by an audio CD player, such as music you have composed/created, or a voice recording you might need to distribute to clients, friends or family.

For video DVDs, please see the Video Editing section.

Wave/MP3

Wave to MP3

Do you have files in Wave format (WAV) and need to reduced them to about one tenth the size? Converting to the popular MP3 format is the answer. Or do you want to put music from your CDs onto your computer? Saving them as standard wave files takes up huge amounts of space (about 9 MB per minute, making 700 MB for a 80-minute CD), but putting them into MP3 format means you can get 10 times as much music into the same space.

Music can be saved in different qualities of MP3 compression, meaning small files (with less quality) or for more quality bigger files. And MP3 files can be converted into Wave files. Wave files can be edited with such effects as fade in, fade out, stereo to mono, adding an echo, changing volume, stereo panning.

Document Scanning

Scanning

Do you have a need to have an important document stored in electronic format?

We can scan in a document (up to A4 size) which can be saved as an image for archiving onto CD-ROM, or using Optical Character Recognition text can be saved as a text file in a variety of formats. Images can be scanned and saved as images, and the text and images combined and saved as a PDF document.

A typical A4 scanned page saved in TIF format (colour) is about 25 MB in size, meaning about 26 pages can fit onto one CD. The number can be increased if the pages are in greyscale or reduced in quality, depending on their content and importance. Saving the scanned pages as text and graphics files or PDF files will give a smaller file size and more per disk, with the added bonus of being able to edit the text files if necessary before saving.

PDF Creation

PDF creation

When you need a document that anyone can view, the ideal solution is an Acrobat PDF file. PDF stands for Portable Document Fornat, and was invented by Adobe for easy document exchange between computers, even different types of computers. The Adobe Acrobat Reader is available for free from Adobe, you can download the latest version from www.adobe.com (click to open site in a new window). A PDF file created on a PC can be viewed safely on a Mac computer using Acrobat Reader, all the necessary information is saved in the file, including fonts and graphics.

Any file can be saved as a PDF file, send us the file and we can output to PDF at a variety of qualities.

Remember the higher the quality, the larger the file. Text only documents will be small and with no loss of quality, but images in PDFs will make the file bigger, especially if a high-quality output is needed. We can strive for the optimum output which gives best quality for smallest file size.

We have a large selection of fonts available for use in the final output PDF. If we do not have the font you wish to use, please supply the font as a True Type or Postscript Type 1 font and we can use it. By using the correct font the final PDF will look exactly as you intend it to, on any computer.
