Disk Conversion

zip disk

we read data from CDs or record onto CD

Have you ever been frustrated that your data is on the wrong type of data storage?

Got data on floppy disks but need it on a CD? Or got a Zip disk and no Zip drive?

Need to edit data on a CD-ROM and save it onto CD?

Send us the disks and we can convert them. We can open disks and copy files of most known types, and output in a variety of popular formats.

Note: for PC only. Mac disks not currently supported, although it may be possible to copy Mac-format CDs but not to edit them.

Also note that disk copying may be subject to copyright restrictions. We do not condone illegal copying.

Disks include: Compact Disc formats (CD-ROM, CD-RW, CD-R, Audio CD, mini 80 mm CD, business card CD), DVD, floppy disks (90 mm 1.44MB, 133 mm 1.2MB), Zip disks (100 MB, 250 MB), hard disks (IDE up to 250 GB, and SCSI), flash memory cards of various types used in digital cameras and multimedia card readers, and Jaz disks (both 1 GB and 2 GB).

All disks will be scanned for viruses before opening, and in the unlikely event of a virus infection it may not be possible to copy the disk. You will be notified of this.

Also note that sometimes data on disks may become corrupt or unreadable. We do our best to read bad disks, but sometimes the data may be unretrievable, in which case you will be notified.

CD Creation

data can be recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW

We can put vast amounts of your data and programs onto a CD-ROM. Once recorded onto CD the data cannot be lost or accidentally erased. Floppy disks can be erased if exposed to magnetic fields for long periods of time, CDs are not affected in this way.

The different types of CD we can write to are: standard 12 cm CD-R playable in any computer CD drive, audio CD playable in any CD player, MP3 CD playable in any modern CD player capable of playing MP3 CDs (note that not all CD players yet offer this facility), CD-RW (a re-writeable CD that can be erased or edited, however you need a CD-RW drive to read it or else a plug-in for reading such disks), business card CD (the size and shape of a stanard business card, yet it is a CD onto which we can record your data; it could contain a short sales presentation for your company, or your personal contact information, or a copy of your website, subject to space limitations on the disk), mini 8 cm CD (acts and looks like an ordinary CD but it is smaller, fits into the smaller groove in trays of standard CD players).

Both the mini CD and business card CD can be created as audio CDs as well as the usual data CD-ROM. The mini CD holds around 180 MB of data, or 16 minutes of audio. The business card CD holds around 50 MB of data, or 4½ minutes of audio. The standard 12 cm CD holds 700 MB of data or 79 minutes of audio.

DVD writing facilities may be introduced in the near future. If you require data to be written to a DVD this may be possible if it is worthwhile doing. A DVD can hold 4.5 GB of data compared to 700 MB on a CD. Note that a DVD-ROM disk can only be read by a DVD drive in a PC. A movie DVD can be played in a PC or a DVD player.

You can also put audio data onto CD to be played by an audio CD player, such as music you have composed/created, or a voice recording you might need to distribute to clients, friends or family.
